Sharing third place with a Dutchman didn't feel that odd to Simon van Velthooven as he joked about his Dutch ancestry after tying for the Bronze medal in his cycling race at the Olympics.
A second generation Dutchkiwi, he definitely has the cycling gene.
Born and bred in Palmerston North, he is supported by his 1st generation father, Paul van Velthooven, who is chairman of Bike Manawatu.
