Montfoort - a relatively new business making authentic Dutch treats is making good progress in Wellington, slowly gaining more and more business since launching in August 2013.
Eloise van Wynbergen, who describes herself as Montfoort's "Head Stroopwafel Maker" says the reason she started the business was simple, "As the daughter of a Dutchman, I was raised on a strict diet of stroopwafels, licorice and speculaas. Not to mention the expertly crafted kroketten and appeltaarts that my kiwi mother whipped up with ease! After a trip to the motherland and experiencing the goods first hand, I was convinced fresh is best. And so along came Montfoort. With a simple yet exciting mission, to master the Dutch favourites using honest, fresh ingredients and traditional methods."
Aside from finding Montfoort at Wellington's Night Market on a Friday, and the City Market every second Sunday - Montfoort is also now being stocked in local supermarkets, including New World Thorndon as well as at Ontray's Food Emporium in Petone. They also take large orders for home or business delivery!
Their mission is simple, "To showcase the best of Dutch street food, keeping it fresh, inventive and fun."
