The NZ Netherlands Foundation was one of 12 organisations to receive a New Zealand Diversity Award from the Race Relations Commissioner in August 2012.
The annual awards recognise outstanding contributions to cultural diversity and positive race relations in New Zealand.
Race Relations Commissioner Joris de Bres, himself a Dutch New Zealander, said the Foundation had been selected because of its commitment to human rights, diversity and race relations. “Of particular note was the two year touring Anne Frank exhibition organised by the Foundation, which had already attracted over 170,000 people in 17 museums around the country at the time of the award.”
Joris de Bres said that other projects, such as the publication of Tasman’s Legacy, a history of the Dutch in New Zealand some years ago, the annual World Press Photo Exhibition, the facilitation of the Leiden Waka project in conjunction with the Maori arts organisation Arts Aotearoa and other projects sharing Dutch heritage with New Zealanders and bringing people of Dutch descent together also contributed to the Foundation receiving the award.
