The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) is now accepting nominations for its prestigious Heineken Prizes for 2012. Each prize is worth USD$150,000. The Academy selects the winners after receiving nominations from around the world. Candidates may be nominated by either an organisation or an individual researcher. Prospective nominees should be active scientists or scholars who are expected to continue their research activities for at least ten years. Their achievements in the field of biochemistry and biophysics, medicine, environmental sciences, history, or cognitive science are outstanding and a source of inspiration to others.

The Heineken Prizes are awarded by the Dr H.P. Heineken Foundation and the Alfred Heineken Fondsen Foundation. The deadline for nominations is 1 November 2011.  Further information and nomination forms are available from
http://www.knaw.nl/heinekenprizesnom.

If you are interested in studying in the Netherlands, then you will find other scholarships and prizes listed on the KNAW website under “Awards” and “Prizes”, including the “Heineken Young Scientists Awards”.

About the Heineken Young Scientists Awards

The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences presents the Heineken Young Scientists Awards every other year to five scientists whose outstanding scientific or scholarly work sets an example for other young researchers. Eligible researchers work for a Dutch research organisation and received their doctoral degrees no more than five years previously. The Heineken Young Scientists Awards will be presented at the Beurs van Berlage Building in Amsterdam. The Heineken Prizes will be presented at the same ceremony.
